The Two Towers Auction System
The auction is a way for players to sell their goods to other players
through a controlled environment. It allows individuals to place items
for sale and then others may choose to handle these items and bid on them.
- Fees
When you place an item up for bid the auctioneer will charge you a
special handling fee for his or her trouble. If you choose to remove
the item from auction you will get charged a second fee for further
trouble. The withdraw fee will usually be a percentage of the highest
bid plus a percentage for each hour that the item was held by the
auctioneer.
- Placing items on auction
To place an item on auction you must travel to an auction house with
the item and type 'auction <item> min <fee>' There is the option
of adding a tag 'auction <item> min <fee> tag <message>' This tag
will be displayed to the browsers who request a list of available items.
- Bidding
There are two ways for one to bid on an item. The person wishing to
bid may either go to the room in which the auctioneer stands and type
'bid <lot number> <price>' or they may simply tell the auctioneer their
bid from where they are. 'tell <auctioneer> bid <lot number> <price>'.
Each new bid after the initial bid on an item must be at least 10 gold
higher than the current standing bid.
- Picking up items
Once the bidding is completed the auction winner must travel to the
auction house and pick up the item. The bidder is given 10 minutes from
the time the bidding closes to do so. Once in the auction house the
bidder may pick up their items by typing 'pickup lot <number>'. You may
also withdraw your item from auction the same way 'pickup lot <number>'
(see fees above).
- Notification of open auctions
When a new item comes up for auction you can ask the auctioneer to send
you informing tells. To do so you may either type 'announce on' in the
auction house or you may tell the auctioneer and he/she will add you
to his/her announce list 'tell <auctioneer> announce on'. You may also
request that the auctioneer no longer inform you of opening items with
'announce off' or 'tell <auctioneer> announce off'.
- Browsing
If you want to take a closer look at an item which has been placed up
for auction then you simply need to travel to the auction house and
request to handle it 'handle <item>'. To get a list of available items
and the price they are going for you can simply type 'list', you may also
'tell <auctioneer> list'.
-Failure to pick up an item
Occasionally things will come up where a bidder will be unable to pick
up an item they have bid on and won. If after the set 10 minutes time
period the bidder has not picked up the item the item will be placed back
on auction and the bidder will receive a tell from the auctioneer stating
they did not pick up their item. If a bidder fails to pick up an item
two times they will be ignored by the auction for 2 weeks unless the
player pays off the penalty at any auctioneer for a set price.
- Auction ledgers
Auctioneers have a global shared ledger where players can post any
requests for equipments. The requests are kept there until the player
removes them or logs off. To post a request simply type 'request
equipment' at an auction house. Auctioneers will list the requests to
you by the 'requests' command. You can also have the auctioneer inform
you when a new request is posted by typing 'requests on' at their auction
house. To remove requests, use 'erase request'.
-Auctioneers and Auction Houses
There are four auctioneers in Arda. Laryn, who deals with the younger
adventurer is in Bree. Alexa, who deals with the richer and more
experienced explorer is near Minas Tirith. For the more evil players,
Eamon, situated in Kadar (Near Harad) deals with experienced serving
free races and Evil Races. For the younger Evil Races, Alazif in
Tul-Tarzhayan will cater to your needs.
-Quitting while you have items in auction
If you quit with items in auction, they will be sold to the shop.
The auctioneer will hold the proceeds of the sale for you to pick
up when you return to Arda.
