How to file an effective bug report
(or "How to get problems taken care of")
1. Be as specific as possible. A vague bug report is really worthless.
So, don't mention more than one bug per report and try not to
drift onto other topics etc, because that makes it a lot more
time consuming for the immortals to dig through all that stuff
to get to the bug.
2. Try to give as many details about which commands you typed just
before the bug occurred. Sometimes it might not be the last command
that you typed that is the source of the bug, and sometimes it
could be a combination of things. So try to give us as much info
as possible. The history command can quickly tell you what the last
few commands were.
3. Just like in real estate, the three most important things are location,
location, location. In the majority of bugs, this is the single most
important clue in tracking down the bug. I deleted a lot of reports
because I just couldn't figure out which room file it was the reporter
was talking about. Obviously, the easiest way to solve this problem
is to just report the bug in the room that it occurred. If that's not
possible or convenient though, try to give as detailed a description
as possible when describing the location that you encountered the
bug.
NB -
If you would like to do a bug report on an item in your inventory
or in the room you may do 'bug/typo/idea/commend <item>' this will
give the ainur the necessary information about the item. If the item
is in a monster's inventory then do the report on the monster and
indicate that it is actually on the specific item which the
monster has.
