Surnames (General Help)
Traditionally, a surname is a name shared in common to identify the
members of a family. In real life, these are called "last names." In
Towers, the surname slot can be used to append a main name in ways that
build your roleplay and develop your character.
All races have their own particular conventions. Hobbits belong to
large, named families and thus use surnames like modern-day last names
(Bilbo Baggins, Frodo Baggins). Dwarves are part of seven clans:
Longbeards, Firebeards, Broadbeams, Ironfists, Stiffbeards, Blacklocks
and Stonefoots. They operate similarly to hobbit names. Elves and Men
are known either by their homeland ("of Gondor") or by their paternal
heritage ("son of Arathorn"). Haradrim join their surname with their
name into one word, such as "Ihbem'Qata". In some cases, players might
additionally choose to create surnames in the character's actual racial
tongue.
Surnames should be chosen with the same care and attention as names.
Not only do the same rules apply here, but surnames should additionally
avoid creating "phrase names" by pairing with a name which, by itself,
would be considered appropriate, e.g. a character named Takin having a
surname of Gathering ("Takin + Gathering").
To set your surname, type "surname <name>". See "help surname" for
more information.
