Note 1 Aule (03/29/01 14:52) New commands parsing Greetings Arda! As you may have noticed, the commands system is changing (and thank you for the feedback that helped us to eliminate some of the initial bugs and dis-satisfiers). The commands are being changed to use a standard command parsing system. This means that most of the commands will now accept syntax such as "my bag", and "bag from ground" and "bag 2 from ground" - allowing you to better specify the object you are trying to reference. The command parsing system also adds a great new advantage in that it will attempt to automatically choose the item you are seeking. For example, if you typed "open backpack" when there are 2 backpacks on the ground and one on your back, the command will now be smart enough to locate the first closed backpack (instead of merely just the first backpack found). Similarly, 'extinguish torch' will locate the first burning torch and extinguish it, where in the past you had to 'extinguish torch 2'. The new system will also notify you when many matching objects were found. For example when multiple closed backpacks were found in response to your 'open' request, it will print out the list. The command will go ahead and use the first item from the list. To reduce spam, you can turn off this listing of matching objects by typing "set briefcommands". With 'briefcommands' set you will no longer receive notice that multiple objects matched your request, and the command will proceed normally. Objects in your inventory are always searched first, followed by objects on the ground. Unless you specific "open backpack on ground", of course :-) This new command parsing should provide a better ease-of-use system for new players and veterans alike. Enjoy! Aule
