Questing (Player Guides)
"Questing" in The Two Towers refers to completing in-game quests; you
will often see players say something like "I quested a red sword". This
short FAQ-style guide will give you a few hints on how to find quests and
gather quest points for the quest tracker.
Q: Where can I find quests?
A good point to start would be the town gates of your own home town.
In Free Race towns, at each of the town gates there is a helpful
ranger who can lead you to various quests. He will start with the
adventurer's caves, a special "training" area for new players that
contains four quests. See if you can find them all! In Evil Race
towns, at the town gates you may find veteran sniffers who will tell
you about quests available in the town itself.
Q: I've completed the starter quests from the ranger/sniffer, now what?
Try to find quests in your town and/or other towns you can reach
through the "travelto" command. For any NPC that does not look very
"generic", try to wait in the same room for a while to see if it says
something about needing help or having a problem that needs solving.
If it does, try asking about it using the "ask <npc> about <topic>"
command. Chances are that after a few questions and answers you will
learn what the quest is! Apart from asking NPCs, careful looking at
room descriptions can lead you to a quest as well. If there is a quest
action in the room, it will usually be hinted at in a description.
For example, if you see a description like "This picture looks like
it was moved recently.", it is likely that "move picture" might give
you another hint.
Q: I'm done with the town quests, what next?
You should try exploring the wilderness. The "map" command can prove
very helpful, as it will display you some more significant quest areas
like villages, farms, camps and the like. Just use it and move from
one red "*" to another to see what you can find! If you wish to find
the less obvious places (usually with more interesting rewards),
though, you will have to put in more legwork. Such places can usually
only be found by looking for special exits or clues in the room's
generic description which may be slightly different from the ones
around it.
Q: What are quest points?
Quest points are simply the quests you have completed: you get one
point per quest completed. To see what quests you have done, just
type "quests". Quests come in two types: tracked and non-tracked.
Tracked quests can be found in East Arda and beyond, while non-tracked
quests are in West Arda and Far Harad. The "tracked" name comes from
the fact that they will be counted toward "legend top questers", a list
of players who completed the most quests. West Arda and Far Harad are
excluded as they are not accessible by all of our players.
